Overstory Health is a Boston-based mental health center offering intermediate levels of care for treatment*.
* Our offerings may be referred to as IOP (Intensive Outpatient) or PHP (Partial Hospitalization) by some insurance companies. However it’s important to note that in the state of Massachusetts, we are officially recognized as a Psychiatric Day Treatment Clinic, following the guidelines and standards set by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Our programming is best suited for those experiencing:
- mood disorders (including major depressive and bipolar disorder)
- psychotic disorders (including schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder)
- personality disorders (including borderline and narcissistic personality disorder)
- anxiety disorders (including generalized anxiety disorder or social anxiety)
- self-harm
- trauma/post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
- Suicidal ideation

People will be successful in our programs if they are able to commit to the time requirements, feel ready to do the work, and can focus while there. This usually means having someone supportive in your life, stable housing, and a willingness to be sober while at the program.
Patients can begin treatment within a week. We know how critical it is for those experiencing a mental health crisis to access immediate care.
Our team prioritizes collaboration with clients’ existing care team to ensure a warm hand-off once patients graduate from our program.
If your patient is in need of greater support than standard therapy offers but doesn’t require a hospital stay, you can refer them to Overstory Health. Alternatively, if they’ve recently come out of an inpatient psychiatric stay, we can help them continue their recovery and transition back to their typical routine.
